Americans at Risk
Below is the percentage of U.S. adults with heart disease risk factors in 2005-2008.| Risk Factor | % |
|---|---|
| Inactivity | 53 |
| Obesity | 34 |
| High Blood Pressure | 32 |
| Cigarette Smoking | 21 |
| High Cholesterol | 15 |
| Diabetes | 11 |
Eating and excercise has drastic effect on these conditions and can really ulter symptoms of and causes of heart disease.
In 2003, approximately 37% of adults reported having two or more of the risk factors listed above.
So here are some facts:
- In 2008, over 616,000 people died of heart disease. Heart disease caused almost 25% of deaths. This means one in every four people in the U.S.
- Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women. More than half of the deaths due to heart disease in 2008 were in men.
- Coronary heart disease is the most common type of heart disease. In 2008, 405,309 people died from coronary heart disease.
- Every year about 785,000 Americans have a first coronary attack. Another 470,000 who have already had one or more coronary attacks have another attack.
- In 2010, coronary heart disease alone was projected to cost the United States $108.9 billion.3 This total includes the cost of health care services, medications, and lost productivity.
Processed foods also contain excessive amounts of salt and sugar. Too much salt can cause heart disease, hypertension and stroke. And a diet full of sugar can contribute to weight gain, cardiovascular disease, weakened vision, type 2 diabetes and dental caries. Most of the calories in your diet should come from natural, whole foods like lean meats, poultry, fruits, vegetables, beans, legumes and eggs. When you eat a variety of food from these sources, you get all the nutrients needed for good health. If you learn to manage portion sizes by eating healthy foods, weight loss will happen naturally.

first step.
This blog shows a step by step method for a healthier lifestyle. I will relate to scientific articles and try to show what they mean. I will consider the very fundamental questions in the process. such as why eat healthy? why excercise? I think in the current environment marketers and sales people just tell you to buy stuff to lose weight, but rarely are they candid about their product or your health.I think people should have access to fundamental questions that relate to their health. products sold in the market already make a decision for the people, and it is here that ineffective weight loss products are created. It has to do with if you are sick you bring more money. if everyone is healthy, than the market for drugs, hopitals insurance, a billion dollar industry, will go down. this is a side note i dont mean to go into that debate and open that can of worms.
But i state humbly:
First step is to understand nature, by this I mean environment and how it works? why are fruits and vegetables healthy? Well, fruits and vegetables have been around for a long time, millions of years if not billions of years. Since the earth is 4.6 billion years old and vascular plants emerged approximately around 400 million years ago, so they are pretty old. Honestly, We, the scientific community, don't know when the first orange or apple was made. However, we do know that the first vasular plants emerged 450 million years ago. Therefore, fruits and vegetable or plants found ways to fight all kinds of viruses pathogens bacteria fungus and diseases that persisted in the environment over this long period of time. The first apple seed probably died within days due to something but over time it found ways to fight or overcome those challenges. Apples can grow even though they are outside in the wild they are immune from bacteria, fungi, viruses, diseases, okay! okay! maybe not worms but believe it or not eating those worms are healthy too because guess what? they eat apples too. So when we consume apples we kind of share the same properties that they do. you probably heard the quote "you are what you eat." it couldn't be more true. By no means am i saying be a vegetarian no, no way, in fact my favorite food is steak and I recomend eating meat its a good source of proteins. Besides animals' immune system have also been through the evolution process and have had their time fighting pathogens and most viruses. They are all good ,well except bacon, because it carry viruses and has a immune system that will not kill pathogens. If you remember, the swine flue it emerged from Southeast asia and its prime reservior were swine and pigs. Nonetheless, I am more concerned about processed foods than anything else because that is the leading cause of death in america. A gazzalian people die from heart disease and another gazilian die from cancer but you are probably like there is only 7.028 billion people on earth how can a gazillion die from heart disease and cancer? well to argue this point I would say what about past generations they were people too and they probably died from heart disease too. Secondly, gazillion has not really been an official number so whatever. The third argument I believe is that if you kill one person it is like killing all of humanity. Having said that, on the other hand, processed foods don't have the same defense mechanism as fruits and vegetables. They cant battle bacteria, fungus and pathogens like apple and oranges do. If you leave fries or a mcchicken outside a ton of bacteria will grow on it and soda for that matter.
In fact one of the main reasons for not destroying enviroment and deforestation is to contain diseases in the wild. We make trees and forests so when diseases emerge they persist in that enviroment. For example if a virus emerges it will first persist in the plant world than it will move to animals such as lizards and hopefully it will either stay their or will be killed by the lizard's immune system. disease can stay in plants and animals that live in those forest and in the wild. Our bodies can
