This blog shows a step by step method for a healthier lifestyle. I will relate to scientific articles and try to show what they mean. I will consider the very fundamental questions in the process. such as why eat healthy? why excercise? I think in the current environment marketers and sales people just tell you to buy stuff to lose weight, but rarely are they candid about their product or your health.I think people should have access to fundamental questions that relate to their health. products sold in the market already make a decision for the people, and it is here that ineffective weight loss products are created. It has to do with if you are sick you bring more money. if everyone is healthy, than the market for drugs, hopitals insurance, a billion dollar industry, will go down. this is a side note i dont mean to go into that debate and open that can of worms.
But i state humbly:
First step is to understand nature, by this I mean environment and how it works? why are fruits and vegetables healthy? Well, fruits and vegetables have been around for a long time, millions of years if not billions of years. Since the earth is 4.6 billion years old and vascular plants emerged approximately around 400 million years ago, so they are pretty old. Honestly, We, the scientific community, don't know when the first orange or apple was made. However, we do know that the first vasular plants emerged 450 million years ago. Therefore, fruits and vegetable or plants found ways to fight all kinds of viruses pathogens bacteria fungus and diseases that persisted in the environment over this long period of time. The first apple seed probably died within days due to something but over time it found ways to fight or overcome those challenges. Apples can grow even though they are outside in the wild they are immune from bacteria, fungi, viruses, diseases, okay! okay! maybe not worms but believe it or not eating those worms are healthy too because guess what? they eat apples too. So when we consume apples we kind of share the same properties that they do. you probably heard the quote "you are what you eat." it couldn't be more true. By no means am i saying be a vegetarian no, no way, in fact my favorite food is steak and I recomend eating meat its a good source of proteins. Besides animals' immune system have also been through the evolution process and have had their time fighting pathogens and most viruses. They are all good ,well except bacon, because it carry viruses and has a immune system that will not kill pathogens. If you remember, the swine flue it emerged from Southeast asia and its prime reservior were swine and pigs. Nonetheless, I am more concerned about processed foods than anything else because that is the leading cause of death in america. A gazzalian people die from heart disease and another gazilian die from cancer but you are probably like there is only 7.028 billion people on earth how can a gazillion die from heart disease and cancer? well to argue this point I would say what about past generations they were people too and they probably died from heart disease too. Secondly, gazillion has not really been an official number so whatever. The third argument I believe is that if you kill one person it is like killing all of humanity. Having said that, on the other hand, processed foods don't have the same defense mechanism as fruits and vegetables. They cant battle bacteria, fungus and pathogens like apple and oranges do. If you leave fries or a mcchicken outside a ton of bacteria will grow on it and soda for that matter.
In fact one of the main reasons for not destroying enviroment and deforestation is to contain diseases in the wild. We make trees and forests so when diseases emerge they persist in that enviroment. For example if a virus emerges it will first persist in the plant world than it will move to animals such as lizards and hopefully it will either stay their or will be killed by the lizard's immune system. disease can stay in plants and animals that live in those forest and in the wild. Our bodies can
You have explored so many interesting topics regarding our health issues that are caused by processed foods. What is your opinion on genetically modified foods?
ReplyDeleteHi thats a great question. I m not an expert but It is still a very new idea there hasn't been very large studies done to monitor any changes in the environment due to GM foods. As you can guess it is very complicated how one strand of DNA can effect the enviroment. However, California passed a law that allowed gmo fruits and vegetables. All the fruits we eat today are genetically modified. I personally think there is nothing wrong with it. it is healthy and good and less stuff goes to waste. However on the other hand, there has been a dramatic decrease in the number of working bees in the east coast and midwest that has lead some scientists to hypothesize that this is because we are genetically modifying the fruits and vegetables and that doesn't set well with bees.Bees are the most important polinators. One explanation for their dramatic decrease is that they might be disappearing because of Genetic modification of seeds of fruits and vegetables. others believe that we might me working them too hard. It is still very early to decide but for the most part GM has done wonders to the human health.
